How to Send Information ADD A POOL

1. If you know about a qualifying pool, anywhere in the world, that we haven't listed, we'd like to receive the information necessary to add it to the database.
2. If you know about a Masters or youth swimming, diving, water polo or synchronized swimming team or club that we haven't listed (or referred to in an existing listing), we'd like you to tell us about it.
3. If the information in an existing listing is incorrect, incomplete, out-of-date or could be amplified to make it more useful in any way, we want to know.

Criteria for a Facility Listing

We're looking for facilities with one or more pools which meet all of the following requirements:
Size-
A pool must have a "swimmable" length of 20 yards (roughly 18 meters) or longer, except for on-site hotel pools which qualify at 50 feet (15.24 meters).

Operating season-
The pool must operate for at least eight full months of the year.

Accessibility-
Our primary interest is in pools accessible in some way to travelers. Hotels, Ys, and public pools are our favorites, but we'll list private clubs, apartment, condo, and neighborhood association pools, too, if you tell us about them.

Just about the only kinds of pool we won't list are college and university facilities accessible only to "students, faculty, staff, and alumni", and company health facilities accessible only to employees. (We underline the "only" because many of those facilities host Masters and youth swim clubs which will allow visiting members of affiliated clubs to join their workouts - and if that's the case, we'll be happy to list them, too.)

Criteria for a Swimming, Diving, Water Polo or Synchronized Swimming Club Listing

Masters and Age Group aquatic clubs qualify for listing if they:

If the pool where the club trains is reasonably accessible to the public, we'll include the club contact information within the pool's listing. If the pool isn't accessible to the general swimming public, we'll give the club the "headline" or at least make it clear in the listing that this isn't a drop-in facility.

(Unlisted clubs and teams which train at pools already included in the database can be added to those listings by sending us just the club name, a contact name, and a publishable contact telephone number by e-mail to BHaverland@nc.rr.com.)

How to Send the Information

There are three ways to send us information for a listing:
1. Complete one of our on-line questionnaires: THE ONLINE QUESTIONNAIRES ARE TEMPORARILY OUT OF ORDER. THE LINKS BELOW WILL TAKE YOU TO THE EMAIL RESPONSE SECTION ONLY. OUR TECHNICAL SUPPORT SECTION IS WORKING ON RESOLVING THE PROBLEM.

Simply fill in the blanks in the form and hit the "Send" button. We'll receive the information as an e-mail message.

2. If you'd prefer to use e-mail, we've set up a page of questions that you can copy and paste into your favorite e-mail program (instructions are included on the page). Answer the questions, put our e-mail address into the To: field of your e-mail message, and send it off to us.

3. If you don't like either of the first two alternatives (we admit our questionnaires are a bit lengthy, but they cover just about everything that might be included in a listing), you can compose your own e-mail message with the information you'd like us to receive.

If you choose this method, please be sure to include the following minimal information:

  • The pool or facility name, street address, city, state or province, and country.
  • The area or city code and telephone number for general inquiries about the pool, its hours rates, schedules, and programs.
  • A description of the pool including:
    • The dimensions (at least the length, the number of lanes and/or width is also helpful to have);
    • Whether the pool is indoors, outdoors, or an indoor/outdoor facility;
    • If the pool is outdoors, whether it's heated, unheated, or temperature controlled (heated in winter, cooled in summer); and
    • Although it's not absolutely essential, the water temperature or a range of water temperatures is a very nice piece of information to have.
  • Some indication of the pool's adult visitor admission policies and rates.

To correct, update or amplify an existing listing, simply send an e-mail message telling us what needs to be changed. Don't forget to include either the listing number or the name of the listing and where it's located (there must be 15 "Downtown YMCAs" in the database), and tell us what needs to be changed.

We always try to acknowledge receipt of information promptly after we get it. If you don't hear from us in a reasonable amount of time (we try to reply within 48 hours, but sometimes it takes a bit longer), you can figure that we either did not receive the information or we've gone to the big swimming pool in the sky.
