Clasgow Club Gorbals Swimming Pool

Important Notice Please Read

Swimmers Guide is not connected with any of the facilities listed on this site in any way. We cannot tell you the pools’ opening and closing times or when Senior Aerobics classes are held; we cannot tell you about the availability or cost of swimming lessons; we cannot get you discounted admission to swim at any of them; and we cannot help you find your children’s lost goggles or bathing suits.

We can and do try to give you reliable information about the pools, their locations, their admission policies, and their single-visit or casual swimming prices. Where possible, we include hypertext links to the pools’ own official websites and Facebook pages, clickable email addresses, and links to the websites of the clubs and teams that swim there. Look to those resources within each listing for more detailed information.

The data in the site is under continual review and is revised whenever the site’s editor becomes aware of a change, but, with more than 20,000 listings, a complete, periodic review of every listing takes about seven years to complete; in many places, prices will change four or five times before we have a chance to check the pool’s official website again.

For that reason, we ask for your help: If any of the information in the listing is incorrect, out of date, or could be improved, please tell us. There is an "Edit" button on just about every line of every listing, click on the edit button to tell us what needs to be changed. (No, it's not a place for you to ask us questions. What we have in each listing is the latest news we have.)

Also, please consider checking the listings of the pools you regularly use at home or when traveling, as your knowledge may be helpful to someone else who is unfamiliar with the area and visiting for the first time. Just go to the Add a Pool section of the site, read the first page, then fill out the questionnaire.

Facility Notes

The facility opened in January, 2000.
Be sure to check the "Glasgow Club Gorbals Swimming Pool's opening hours" link on the pool'website (website, above), then click on the lane availability link for a detail schedule so you'll know when there are no lanes or only a limited number of lanes available.

Facility Reviews

Relatively new pool, with a couple of lanes occasionally available. Not particularly great for swimming though because of temperature, which might be a little hot for some, and the fact that the shallow end is a wee bit too shallow.If you like the crawl be prepared to crawl along the bottom when you reach the shallow end. That said it is not impossible and it's ok when you need somewhere to swim.
The entrance to the pool is directly behind you as you face reception. The changing village is fresh and clean. The lockers take a returnable 20p. The pool is shallow but I found it pleasantly cool for swimming lengths. One of the three lunchtime lanes was removed as the pool was prepared for a session for children on an inflatable installation but there weren't many of us swimming and so it wasn't too crowded. The cafe is making a reasonable effort to produce healthy food.

Positives:
Entry prices are cheap, especially the £15 per month swim-only membership;
There are gender-neutral change facilities for everyone (shared showers & individual change cubicles);
The water temperature is perfect for lap swimming;
There is a very mixed crowd of people; and
People are generally friendly (except during school holidays when everyone seems angry about being jammed in one pool)

Negatives:
The leisure pool is has not reopened since 2020 and one-hour timed sessions that you need to book for are still in place;
The pool is very shallow and has no lane lines on the bottom, making it less-than-ideal for serious lap swimming;
It is chaotically busy during school holidays;
Very loud commercial radio is played throughout the pool complex making it hard to hear anyone over the speaker-distorting commercials and host’s inane gabble; and
The centre is quite old and a tad tired.

Make sure you take a few 20p coins with you for the lockers, as they are old and prone to stealing your coins.
