Facility Reviews
This is a huge facility on the outskirts of a small town. The 25m pool was the only one open when I was there. I suspect the 50m pool may only be used for meets or high- level training but my Japanese is too poor to do anything but guess. A few high school students were training and there were a few other miscellaneous swimmers when I was there. I had a lane to myself through noon. The water was a little warm but not too warm to get in a good swim. I didn’t see (or understand) a posted temperature.
The change rooms and 25 m pool were clean. The usual rules for Japanese pools apply: Shoes off before change room; swim caps required; longer trunks preferred; no tattoos or piercings. Free lockers are provided with wristband keys.
The staff were totally fabulous, making sure I found my way around, understood what was happening and got in a good swim despite limited language in common.
Getting there and back was the problem: Sendai is the closest main city and it’s two trains and a local bus either way. I made it there from Sendai in about an hour but it took 2-½ hours to get back because of irregular and minimal schedules. It would be much easier to do with a car. It was a fun adventure for a day though.
