Facility Reviews
A modern and possibly the best swimming facility in Iceland. Great location, if you're fit enough to walk up the very steep hill to the complex. Large hot-tub that extends inside as well as outside, children's pools and steam room. Lanes always appearedto be available.
The changing facilities are large and spacious. An attendant monitors the large communal shower block to make sure that everyone washes thoroughly (without swimwear) because the water (as with all pools in Iceland) is untreated.
This is a nice, outdoor facility. In addition to the six-lane lap pool, there is also a warmer (by 3 or 4 degrees), alternative lap area that's also used for open recreation, a couple of smaller warming pools, and a water slide. It's a good family aquatic complex.
The only problem was that swim team had practices in the evenings (from about 17:00 to 18:00) and used four of the lanes. One evening I had a lane to myself, the other I had three other swimmers to share with.
As others have commented about Icelandic swim culture, there is no circular method for laps but rather straight line swimming no matter speed or swim style. I would suggest using flexible time slots for this pool to improve chances of avoiding chaotic lane sharing.
The locker and shower areas were extremely clean and local swimmers were always helpful (in English) if help was needed.
