Facility Notes
Built in 1923, this is the second oldest pool in Iceland. It is built right into the rocks on the side of a mountain.
It is geothermally heated but may form ice in the winter. It is cleaned by volunteers once a year in summer.
Visitors can approach the pool by car, but it is about a 20 minute walk through fields of lava ash and small streams.
Facility Reviews
Driving east on the ring road (No.1) turn left (north) on Road 242 marked Raufarfell. Drive straight toward Seljavellir (don’t take the one right turn toward Raufarfellsvegur); park, then walk up-river. The pool is on the left (west) side of the river. Algae obscures water so don't dive in.
