Important Notice Please Read

Swimmers Guide is not connected with any of the facilities listed on this site in any way. We cannot tell you the pools’ opening and closing times or when Senior Aerobics classes are held; we cannot tell you about the availability or cost of swimming lessons; we cannot get you discounted admission to swim at any of them; and we cannot help you find your children’s lost goggles or bathing suits.

We can and do try to give you reliable information about the pools, their locations, their admission policies, and their single-visit or casual swimming prices. Where possible, we include hypertext links to the pools’ own official websites and Facebook pages, clickable email addresses, and links to the websites of the clubs and teams that swim there. Look to those resources within each listing for more detailed information.

The data in the site is under continual review and is revised whenever the site’s editor becomes aware of a change, but, with more than 20,000 listings, a complete, periodic review of every listing takes about seven years to complete; in many places, prices will change four or five times before we have a chance to check the pool’s official website again.

For that reason, we ask for your help: If any of the information in the listing is incorrect, out of date, or could be improved, please tell us. There is an "Edit" button on just about every line of every listing, click on the edit button to tell us what needs to be changed. (No, it's not a place for you to ask us questions. What we have in each listing is the latest news we have.)

Also, please consider checking the listings of the pools you regularly use at home or when traveling, as your knowledge may be helpful to someone else who is unfamiliar with the area and visiting for the first time. Just go to the Add a Pool section of the site, read the first page, then fill out the questionnaire.

Facility Notes

In November, 2018, when we called the Y to update the information in this listing, the fellow who answered the telephone confirmed that the arrangement with the Sheraton Four Points Hotel was still in place and mentioned that there are three other hotels in Asheville whose guests also have complimentary access privileges. Call the YMCA to find out which ones.

Facility Reviews

A nice facility, located close to downtown hotels and the Omni Grove Park but not really walkable from either. They do allow day visitors for $15.00 and were very nice about it. The 'twin' four lane pools are very nice and very clean. It looks like the building architecture precluded building anything with 6 lanes so they opted for 2 x 4 lane separated by a walkway and several supporting buttresses that the lifeguards have to work around. Both pools are striped with competition lane ropes, but the 'North' pool, which is maintained at a decently cool temperature, does not have targets on the walls. The deep end has contrasting tile on the standing ledge which helps a lot, but the shallow end has nothing but clean, white tile that blends into the bottom - so count your strokes and watch your heels on those turns. The South pool does have targets, but is a bit warm for a long work out, especially if you wear a cap. I wish they would reverse the temps! Bring your own lock; towels are provided if you need one.

Great facility. Nice people. I agree with all comments in the May, 2015 review. The warm pool was warm enough that I found it difficult to do laps in (the other pool was busy). On another day, I used the cool pool which was great.
[September, 2015]
The north pool (Pool 1) does have targets on the shallow end, but none on the deep end. The water temperature in the north pool is great for laps. The south pool (Pool 2) was not set up for laps either time. I mostly had a lane to myself, with a short period of sharing with one other person, but I can believe that the pool gets crowded before and after normal work times. Kickboards, pull-buoys, and fins are available poolside. The facility has both adult and youth locker rooms. The adult locker rooms were undergoing renovations in November, 2019; the girls' locker room was well-worn.

The pool is within easy walking distance (½ mile) from the center of downtown Asheville.

The staff very generously extended my one-day pass for the three days of my stay in Asheville at no extra charge, on their own volition.
