Schwimmhalle Freiberger Platz

Important Notice Please Read - CLICK HERE

Swimmers Guide is not connected with any of the more than 20,000+ facilities listed on this site in any way. We cannot tell you the pools’ opening and closing times; we cannot tell you about the availability and cost of swimming lessons; we cannot help you find your children’s lost goggles or bathing suits.

We can and do try to give you reliable information about the pools, their locations, their access policies, and their single-visit or casual swimming prices. Where possible, we include email addresses and hypertext links to the pools’ own official websites, and links to the websites of the clubs and teams that swim there. Look to those resources within each listing for more detailed information.

The data in each listing is under continual review and is revised whenever the site’s editors become aware of a change but, with more than 20,000 listings, a complete, periodic review of every listing takes about three years to complete; in many places, prices will change two or three times before we have a chance to check the pool’s official website again.

For that reason, we ask for your help: If any of the information in the listing is incorrect, out of date, or could be improved, please tell us. There is an "Edit" button on just about every line of every listing, click on the edit button to tell us what needs to be changed. Please consider checking the listings of the pools you regularly use at home or when traveling, as your knowledge may be helpful to someone else who is unfamiliar with your area and visiting for the first time.

To our English users: For reasons described in the FAQ, county names shown the listings in England are the cities' and towns' historic counties, not necessarily the counties they are assigned to now.

Facility Notes

This is a new pool that opened in December, 2016, at the same location as an older facility that went by the same name. Now that the new pool is open, the city is refurbishing the old one; it is expected to reopen sometime in 2019.
Swimmers familiar with the older facility should note that the entrance to the pool has been moved from Freiberger Platz to Maternistraße.
Please note that the first two reviews, below, predate the opening of the new pool but have been left in the listing because some of the information in those reviews may be helpful and the negatives mentioned in them appear to have been corrected in the new facility.

Facility Reviews

A good place to swim. The water temperature is comfortable for laps – low 80ºsF. There are lane markers and people swim circles. It can get crowded at busy times. Drop by before your swim, the hours change often and are not reflected on the pool’s Website. The staff speaks limited English, but there are signs in both English and German. After 5 P.M., parking is limited so take a taxi or public transport. It is within walking distance of the Hilton, Radisson, Kempenski, etc. hotels in the old town.
Although the pool, locker rooms, and facilities in general are a little grungy, the 50m pool is great! It's a short walk from downtown hotels and tourist attractions.

The new pool has the same facilities as the old one, but isn't grungy. It is the best pool in Dresden for lap swimming, by far. During opening hours, the entire pool is divided into lanes, although some of those lanes are used for classes/clubs. Check the sign when you walk in to see which lanes are open. Of the open lanes, there are three speeds: senior, unmarked, and fast.

The times listed on the website are for general use. Download the pdf with the weekend schedule/school break schedule because they often limit public hours for swim meets. (The download is the first line of the Schwimmhalle dropdown under the Öffunngszeiten menu.)
