Facility Notes
The Boston Sports Institute, the home of the pool, has a website HERE and a Facebook page, but we've used the Charles River Aquatics page as the facility's home page in the "Facility Overview" section of the listing, because that's where all the swimming information is.
The pool is the tank that was used in the 2012 Olympic Trials in Omaha Nebraska. After the trials, the pool was dismantled and stored for later transport to the Boston area.
The facility is heavily oriented toward swimming instruction and competitive training; it's approach to lap swimming is to sell recurring weekly time slots for exclusive use of a lane (no shared lanes) for several months at a time. Unsold time slots are made available to one-time visitors, but these are apparently not "prime times".
NOTE: Based on the October, 2023, Facility Review, below, we recommend that swimmers considering a visit telephone the pool before they pay for a session they may not be able to book.
Facility Reviews
This is a classic Catch-22: You can’t see the pool schedule until you’ve registered and paid the $20.00 fee. I arrived on a Friday afternoon and found there were no swims available that day after 11 AM, and nothing on Saturday or Sunday, either. Going forward, the only availability was on weekday mornings. This pool is not an option for weekend visitors.
