Het Marnix

Important Notice Please Read

Swimmers Guide is not connected with any of the facilities listed on this site in any way. We cannot tell you the pools’ opening and closing times or when Senior Aerobics classes are held; we cannot tell you about the availability or cost of swimming lessons; we cannot get you discounted admission to swim at any of them; and we cannot help you find your children’s lost goggles or bathing suits.

We can and do try to give you reliable information about the pools, their locations, their admission policies, and their single-visit or casual swimming prices. Where possible, we include hypertext links to the pools’ own official websites and Facebook pages, clickable email addresses, and links to the websites of the clubs and teams that swim there. Look to those resources within each listing for more detailed information.

The data in the site is under continual review and is revised whenever the site’s editor becomes aware of a change, but, with more than 20,000 listings, a complete, periodic review of every listing takes about seven years to complete; in many places, prices will change four or five times before we have a chance to check the pool’s official website again.

For that reason, we ask for your help: If any of the information in the listing is incorrect, out of date, or could be improved, please tell us. There is an "Edit" button on just about every line of every listing, click on the edit button to tell us what needs to be changed. (No, it's not a place for you to ask us questions. What we have in each listing is the latest news we have.)

Also, please consider checking the listings of the pools you regularly use at home or when traveling, as your knowledge may be helpful to someone else who is unfamiliar with the area and visiting for the first time. Just go to the Add a Pool section of the site, read the first page, then fill out the questionnaire.

Facility Notes

NOTE: In June, 2022, we were advised that the facility accepts only Maestro-brand debit cards in payment for admission; cash, credit cards, and other debit cards are not accepted. The swimmer who told us about the policy included a work-around solution to the problem for those who don’t have a Maestro card.
The showers and locker room are coed. A key to a locker is given out with payment.

Facility Reviews

The only place near central Amsterdam where you can swim laps.
Very nice, reasonable lane lines, polite distribution of fast/slow swimmers.
The 25m pool is 3 speed-designated, wide lanes, plus a double lane for socializers. The lanes are divided by loose ropes, so the water is very turbulent. The pool gets extremely crowded (10 or more per lane) during lap swim times.
Talk with a guard before just jumping into a lane – at times, some lanes may be designated for non-freestyle strokes.
I give it an A+ for a European public pool: Rebuilt just two years ago, it's brightly lit, spacious, immaculate, smoothly run, and offers a stunning canal view.

I was disappointed. The locker rooms were not clean; the pool has sand and hair; and it was crowded. I would have preferred to swim in the canal.
[November, 2014]
Open seven days a week. Lap swim daily from 7 to 9 AM, on Sunday from 7 AM to 12:15 PM. Consult web site for two other daily lap sessions.

An electronic wrist band will get you through the turnstile. Turn right downstairs, grab a hanger, then touch the band to the lock of the public (designated M/F) changing rooms. Touch it on the opposite door to exit, then touch it on the electronic key pad located on the lockers. A locker will be assigned to you. Touch the bracelet to the locker door to open it. To leave the facility, you must deposit the wristband in an opening in the surface of the turnstile that faces you.

This is a nice facility, clean and well maintained. It is difficult to buy a pass if you don’t have a Maestro card. The facility does not accept cash, debit or credit cards, only the Maestro card. The staff said I should wait in the lobby until another swimmer came along, offer that person the €5.55 in cash and ask if he or she would buy me a wristband pass. I waited about 15 minutes and a nice fellow came along who was going swimming; he accepted my €5.55 and bought the entry wristband for me so I could get in.
