The facility also has a 12m x 12m, 1m - 1.5m depth, 32ºC (90ºF) teaching pool.
Facility Reviews
This facility started its life in the late nineteenth century as a swimming pool/bathhouse/laundry provided by Nottingham City Council for the town's working people. The street façade is just about all that you will see of what was built over a century ago. Once through the portal, you will find yourself in a modern leisure centre, also provided and managed by the City Council, opened to the public in April, 2012. For those interested in the previous incarnation there is a small display of photographs taken in earlier days.
This is a useful facility, within easy walking distance of the City Centre. It opens at 06h30 daily (including weekends). Lap swimming is available in 'swim for fitness' sessions (check the website for session times). Three lanes are reserved for lap swimming, the other half of the pool remaining available for unsegregated use. On my three, recent, early morning visits most users appeared to opt for the unsegregated area. For the relatively few of us using the lap swimming lanes, discipline was good.
Of the facility itself: (i) Users are asked to remove street footwear before entering the changing area; (ii) Changing and most showering facilities are not gender-specific, so you will need to use the cubicles for at least a part of the process of getting changed; (iii) Locker use requires a £1 coin, returned when you remove your stuff; (iv) Contrary to the earlier post, the pool does not now have high sides: the water level is flush with the pool edge and laps over into a poolside drainage channel.
