Facility Reviews
The water temperature depends on whether the south-easter is whipping the water up.
Beautiful view of the bay and of Table Mountain. Clean pool water, filtered from the ocean, but chilly in winter-spring months. Locker rooms are not the cleanest but usable - bring a lock. Best pool in Cape Town.
The locker rooms have been fully renovated and are now kept clean.

I swam here during the New Year's season while in Cape Town. It is one of the worst kept pools I've encountered anywhere in the world. The view is nice - but that's hardly relevant when swimming laps. The water was very dirty and cloudy; you could barely see what was in front of you.

I went to the pool to train during the day, but it was too crowded with holiday goers. A few days later, I returned at 7 AM when the pool opened and had a very pleasant swim. The water was clear and the temperature is comfortable in summer. The cloakrooms are reasonably clean, but could be better.

The water is cool but somewhat cloudy with little salt water used.
There is no storage in the changing room to lock belongings in, but the showers are warm.
There are plenty of grassy areas and the diving boards and platform are open.
For lap swimmers it's best to go during mornings or weekdays.
It's a good place for a family outing.

The 50m pool was 24.5ºC (76.1ºF), when I visited in late November. I was there on a Monday morning and was able to swim from 7 to 7:45 AM, when they started cleaning and kicked me to a different pool. For serious lap swimming, I suggest early morning, especially in summer and over the weekends. Pick a stripe and follow it or, if all are occupied, follow a line between the stripes.
The 28m x 25m pool (Pool 3) is waist-deep and "swimmable" (as I discovered on Monday when the main pool was closed for a two-hour cleaning).
The pool has a superb location and vista, but in terms of facilities, don’t expect a lot. Whilst this is a public facility, I understand that it is bailed out by local residents and Friends of Sea Point Pavilion who, err, um, “help to keep it afloat”.
There are no lockers, bring a waterproof pouch or leave valuables at home. The showers are hot. The changing facilities are reasonable but basic.
Another important thing to note about this facility is the “loadshedding” (the delightful term used in SA for rolling electricity blackouts that have occured daily for the past two to three years). At Sea Point they currently have them four times per day, each blackout lasting 2.5 hours. The Sea Point pool complex shuts when blackouts are in progress, as I discovered on Saturday. The reason (I was told by staff) was the inability to filter and sanitise the water.
