Facility Notes
This pool was the site of the 1932 Olympics swimming events. It was 33⅓ meters long at that time, the then-Olympic standard, but was extended some time later; if you check the Google Maps satellite view photo of the pool, you can see where the additional 16⅔ meters were added.
During the week, the south end of the pool has lane lines for COLA Aquatics; the north end is used for the USA Water Polo Team, diving, and syncro teams, lifeguard training, recreational swim, and SCUBA lessons. There are countless lessons sessions throughout the day. On Fridays and Saturdays there are lessons for the special needs population as well Special Olympics training. The pool hosts lifeguard training year round, plus eight high school swim teams and four HS water polo teams.
Unlike the other Los Angeles Parks Department swimming pools, this pool is open on Mondays, but closed on Sundays.
Facility Reviews
Rating: 7 on a scale of 10.
An L.A. Times article complained of long ticket lines to get in, and trouble finding the pool's hours. "…it is so whimsically run, the mystery isn't that so few people know about it but that anyone does."
Never seems to be in long course mode and there are no lane dividers in short course.
The 50m competition pool is heated and divided into lanes, but it is always set up with the bulkhead in place to divide the pool into half-length swimming areas. There is a very nice area with chairs for sun bathing.
I can totally recommend to swim here.
