Facility Notes
The pool is not 25m wide for its entire 50m length, the first 10m have an angled "out parcel", so it starts out at a width of 16m and grows to 25m wide for the last ~40m of the pool's length. If you're swimming 50m laps, there are only 6 or 7 lanes, not the 10 lanes you might expect.
Some websites call this the North Cronulla Beach Pool; others call it the South Cronulla Beach Pool. It appears to be between North Cronulla Beach and South Cronulla Beach and is the southernmost of three ocean pools all placed close together.
Facility Reviews
This should be the ideal ocean pool but, unfortunately, is not. The rebuild a few years ago has made it prone to ingress of sand and weed. It's not maintained properly so is often barely deep enough to do laps. Compared to the offerings of other councils (e.g., Queenscliff, Bondi), Sutherland Council has let this iconic facility slide and that's a pity.
Criticisms aside, if you get there in the mornings before the crowds and hopefully when it's not too silted up, it's an excellent gig. That's why I keep coming back and tolerate the weeds. :-)
Remember it's ocean water - not filtered. Just pure Pacific Ocean (actually, Tasman Sea). [April, 2014]
