Facility Notes
This is one of our oldest listings and used to be open to the public on a regular basis. But when we checked it in November, 2012, the pool was being managed by the Old Town Orono YMCA, which had information about the pool on its website.
During a February, 2015, review, we noted that the YMCA no longer mentioned the pool on its website and the city's page for the facility showed nothing scheduled there for the month and all the links from the city's page were broken.
Returning to the listing in April, 2019, we found no mention of it on the city's site, the school's site (it's located at the local high school), or the Y's site. We called the pool's telephone number, there was no answer there, so we tried the YMCA. The fellow we spoke with told us that, although the YMCA still has access to the facility, there were not enough people interested in swimming there to justify the cost of staffing it in the "off season". He suggested calling back in summer, when they may open the pool to the public, again.
To make a long story short, the pool is still there and may be accessible to the public in summer, but you won't be able to swim here in the fall to spring time-frame, unless you join or train with the local Y's swim team. [April, 2019]
