Facility Reviews
The pool is clean, well lit and usually not crowded. The locker room is mediocre and lap hours are limited during the weekend, but you can’t beat it for the price and cleanliness.I've always had pleasant experiences in this pool. Most people swim laps and the staff is friendly.
I disagree: The pool is sometimes not clean, and it is very crowded. Many people swim laps when it is almost time to leave.
For people visiting New York City, this is a much cheaper option than the YMCA facilities. The price is still only $10, compared to $30 at the YMCAs.
When I visited, the lap swimming hours were from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. There were two slow, two medium, and two fast lanes with anti-turbulence lane dividers. There were only two people per lane when I visited, just after lunchtime. The pool was very clean as were the changing and showering areas.
If you have short hair, you don't need a swim cap. Kickboards and pull buoys are provided poolside. The lockers have built-in combination locks, so you don't need to bring a lock, but do bring your own towel, soap, and shampoo.
The entrance is on Van Dam Street through an entrance that says "Testing only" but, if you have photo ID, the security guard lets you though to the pool.
