Important Notice Please Read

Swimmers Guide is not connected with any of the facilities listed on this site in any way. We cannot tell you the pools’ opening and closing times or when Senior Aerobics classes are held; we cannot tell you about the availability or cost of swimming lessons; we cannot get you discounted admission to swim at any of them; and we cannot help you find your children’s lost goggles or bathing suits.

We can and do try to give you reliable information about the pools, their locations, their admission policies, and their single-visit or casual swimming prices. Where possible, we include hypertext links to the pools’ own official websites and Facebook pages, clickable email addresses, and links to the websites of the clubs and teams that swim there. Look to those resources within each listing for more detailed information.

The data in the site is under continual review and is revised whenever the site’s editor becomes aware of a change, but, with more than 20,000 listings, a complete, periodic review of every listing takes about seven years to complete; in many places, prices will change four or five times before we have a chance to check the pool’s official website again.

For that reason, we ask for your help: If any of the information in the listing is incorrect, out of date, or could be improved, please tell us. There is an "Edit" button on just about every line of every listing, click on the edit button to tell us what needs to be changed. (No, it's not a place for you to ask us questions. What we have in each listing is the latest news we have.)

Also, please consider checking the listings of the pools you regularly use at home or when traveling, as your knowledge may be helpful to someone else who is unfamiliar with the area and visiting for the first time. Just go to the Add a Pool section of the site, read the first page, then fill out the questionnaire.

Facility Notes

In winter, swimming tickets must be purchased at the skating rink.
Kickboards, pull-buoys, and red Zoomers are available.
No children are allowed in lap swim sessions.
There's also a 25m, 6 lane outdoor, seasonal pool, often the only one open for laps in summer.
Lane availability, overall cleanliness, and water quality vary widely according to the season - avoid it in summer; don't miss it the rest of the year.
As of September, 2019, and effective through late June, 2020, 50 meter, adult, lap swim-only sessions are scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 AM and from 8 to 9 AM. Admission to lap swim sessions is by prepaid pass only; passes can be purchased only between 9 AM and 7 PM.
25y "Courtesy Lanes" may be available during some Recreational Swim periods.
The fastest, easiest way to reach this pool by subway: Take the #1 Broadway local subway to 137th Street, a 10-minute walk. (It is a 25-minute walk from the A train 145th Street station). Turn left (west) onto 138th Street from Broadway, walking on the south (left) side. At the foot of the hill, take the stairs and cross Riverside Drive to the pedestrian bridge. Turn left after the basketball courts and take the first stairway on the right. The pool building is the first one on the left.

Facility Reviews

Underutilized, especially off-season.
By FAR the best deal in NYC.
Lockers are rudimentary, but clean. Allow extra time to find on a first visit.
In summer you can't see the bottom. Showers function sporadically, often without hot water.
Call ahead; the pool closes often for special events. Bring a good lock; don't bring valuables (cautionary, not to dissuade). Water quality is a problem only in summer.
Heads-up! Food left in lockers has caused an infestation of cockroaches.
The showers and lockers are not the best but, if you just want to swim, this is your place.

The pool consistently opens late on summer evenings because the cleaning staff does not finish on time. The women's restrooms have been closed when the cleaning is not finished. Hot water is rarely available, especially in winter. And the whole complex closes annually for all of September.

It's so wonderful to have this facility in my area: beautiful, clean, and essential for good health. I'm very grateful. As of this posting, the swim Aquatics for Seniors is closed. I'm looking forward to the re-opening.
