Facility Notes
There is/was also an 18m x 11m, 15f depth diving pool at this location. That pool still exists, but it has been closed, fenced-off, and the water in it is a murky color. The boards have been removed and Johannesburg divers now use a pool in Pretoria
This pool is in Johannesburg's "Region F" in the list on the Johannesburg website referred to, above.
Facility Reviews
Ellis Park Pool is worth a visit if you're staying nearby. You can't beat a 50m pool if you need to train. Unfortunately, the pool's heater has not been working since March, 2020, and the pool will be closed for maintenance at the end of March, 2021. It will re-open in September, 2021, for the summer season.
The main pool was crystal clear and refreshing. The cold water a reminder that winter is on its way and there will be no more early morning swims in the pool's normally heated water. It was sad to see that the facility was so quiet. Only two other swimmers were training and there were a couple of kids playing on the other end. It looks like COVID has hit the facility quite hard. Allowing me wonder why the City of Joburg has not prioritized the maintenance of the pool's heaters.
I'm hoping that the close for maintenance will include changing and shower facilities - these have been in need of maintenance for some time. Of the eight showers, only two seemed to be in working order. I chose the shower which didn't have broken or missing floor tiles/mosaics, even though they looked like they needed a good scrubbing. The hot water was lukewarm to cold. Hopefully things will be in an improved state, when I return, next summer.
