Facility Notes
Pool 1 is considered a deep water pool so a "deep water certificate" is required. This involves passing a swimming test - the lifeguards can assist on this; they will sign a slip of paper and the office staff will create a certificate valid for three years, allowing you to swim in all deep water pools in the city. Bring a passport photo; the card costs 10 RMB. [July, 2019]
As of July, 2019, hours were: Weekdays from noon to 4 PM and from 7 to 9 PM; weekends from noon to 9 PM.
Facility Reviews
This is a well worn facility consisting of two 25m x 16m, 6 lane pools. One lane of each pool is shallow for water walking. The deep water pool is a great temperature, but beware: the lanes are ungraded, swimmers (tend) go counter-clockwise, and most do breaststroke. The other swimmers can be frustrating, so get in early for a lane to yourself (for a while) - additionally it appears the nearby school? summer-school? uses the pool in the before 2 PM and from 4 to 7 PM, so there's no swimming early (sadly).
The staff is charming and helpful - but absolutely no English is spoken.
Useful tips:
1.Buy your ticket from the Natatorium office (not the office opposite the pool entrance); the office is a set of glass doors directly to a reception desk (not the glass doors leading to gym/staircase/etc.).
2. If you need a deepwater card, get a lifeguard to check that you can swim four lengths; then (at some stage) take the 10 RMB to the natatorium office, then take the receipt + piece of paper + passport photo to the office-booth opposite the pool entrance.
3. The changing rooms are VERY busy; and the locking can seem odd at first - each locker must be opened by the custodian AND your key (one after the other). The custodians are very pleasant; there were two on duty whenever I swam.
